Senior Peer Consellors offer one-on-one personal couselling. The program has been associated with SSS since 1989.
Since its inception, approximately 300 SSS volunteers have completed the SPC training course which has been accredited by the Association of Senior Peer Counsellors of BC. Volunteer counsellors provide compassionate listening and encouragement to help people get more in touch with their own feelings, gain a clearer understanding of their situations and difficulties, and make the decisions necessary to solve their own problems.
An Average of 50 clients receive counselling each year.
This program was funded by the Victoria Foundation- Ernest & Hazel Kay Fund for Seniors, 2005- 2006.
